Author’s Note
This volume is one of the most emotional in Hokuto no Ken.
The confrontation between Raoh and Toki wasn’t just a fight—it was a philosophical clash between power and compassion.
Toki, despite being terminally ill, stood with unmatched dignity.
And Raoh, for all his might, couldn’t completely conquer the idea of love.
Even now, when I look back, I feel a deep respect for both characters.
It’s not about who won.
It’s about what they taught us:
Strength means nothing without purpose.
☠️ 1. Toki Was Originally Chosen to Succeed Hokuto Shinken
Before Kenshiro, Toki was actually considered the most suitable successor to the Hokuto Shinken style.
But due to a deadly illness (caused by nuclear fallout), he voluntarily stepped aside—making his entire journey one of sacrifice.
🥋 2. Raoh Fears One Thing: Love
Despite being a conqueror, Raoh gradually realizes that true strength isn’t just physical—it’s emotional.
His famous hesitation during the final battle comes from encountering “Ai(愛)” — something even he couldn’t master.
💔 3. Toki’s Death Is One of the Most Beloved Scenes in the Series
Toki’s final battle with Raoh isn’t just a duel—it’s a farewell between brothers.
Even Raoh sheds a tear after Toki’s death, calling it the greatest fight of his life.
⚡ 4. Raoh’s Famous Line Was Improvised by the Voice Actor
In the anime adaptation, Raoh’s final declaration,
“I have no regrets in this life!” (わが生涯に一片の悔いなし!),
was reportedly delivered with such emotion that even the staff cried. It remains one of the most iconic lines in anime history.
🏯 5. Raoh’s Ending Was Planned as the True Finale
Originally, Raoh’s death was intended to be the end of the series.
Due to massive popularity, the manga continued—but many fans regard this arc as the emotional climax of Fist of the North Star.
