“5 Chilling and Cosmic Facts About Saint Seiya”

✍️

Author’s Note

One scene that always stuck with me was the Cancer Gold Saint—Deathmask.

He wasn’t just a villain; he was terrifying.

The way he used the faces of the dead as decoration left a lasting impression on me as a kid.

And maybe that’s why it hit differently—because I’m a Cancer myself.

There’s something oddly personal when your own zodiac sign turns out to be the creepiest guy in the show.

Still, that strange connection made the experience unforgettable… in the best (and scariest) way possible.

♈ 1. Each Saint Represents a Real Zodiac Sign or Constellation

The 12 Gold Saints in Saint Seiya are based on the 12 zodiac signs, each guarding a temple of the zodiac.

This system gives the story a unique structure and mythological weight that appeals to fans of astrology and ancient legends.

☠️ 2. Cancer Deathmask Is One of the Darkest Characters

The Cancer Gold Saint, Deathmask, is known for his cruelty—he decorates his temple with the screaming faces of the souls he’s slain.

He stands out as one of the most horrifying and morally corrupt Gold Saints, giving many fans nightmares in their childhood!

🛡️ 3. Seiya Was Almost a Leo, Not a Pegasus

According to early drafts, Seiya was originally going to wear the Leo Cloth, but creator Masami Kurumada changed it to Pegasus to better reflect his underdog, never-give-up personality.

🌌 4. The Armor (Cloths) Have a Cosmic “Storage Mode”

The Saints’ sacred armors, called “Cloths,” are kept in sealed boxes when not worn—each one representing the shape of the corresponding constellation.

This iconic design made Cloth Boxes a popular collectible among fans and toy manufacturers alike.

📚 5. The Series Revived Interest in Greek Mythology in Japan

Before Saint Seiya, Greek gods weren’t commonly featured in Japanese pop culture.

Thanks to the series, characters like Athena, Hades, and Poseidon became household names for a whole generation of manga readers.
